Menzgold & NAM1 Never Gave Chief Imam GH₵ 1 Million
In June this year, there were reports that the CEO of Menzgold and Zylophone Group of companies had set aside GH₵ 1 million to support the Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu Educational Fund (SONSET Fund).
According to a report by myjoyfmonline, the announcement was made after the Chief Imam together with Sheikh Abdul Kaadiru Tahiru, President for the National Muslim Chiefs, paid a courtesy call on Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM1) in his office to express their gratitude for the Menzgold CEO’s philanthropic gesture.
The supposed GH₵ 1 million donation was intended to be used to support Islamic education across the country.
With the recent incidents relating to Menzgold’s alleged Ponzi scheme, there have been calls from some members of the public for some beneficiaries of Nana Appiah’s ‘charitable gesture’ to refund the monies received from him so that it can be used to repay some members of the public who may have lost their investments through the scheme. One of these calls was directed at the National Chief Imam’s Office thereby necessitating a response from the office.
According to information from the National Chief Imam’s office, neither was the GH₵ 1 million nor any amount of money donated to the office of the Chief Imam or any of the organizations under the supervision of the Chief Imam. Since June when the announcement was made, Nana Appiah Mensah had neither given the cash as promised nor has he exhibited any intention to materialize his promise as published by the media.
The Office of the National Chief Imam therefore seeks to inform the public so that members calling on the office to refund the monies will desist from doing so.
