Office of National Chief Imam Condemns Attack on Owusu-Bempah’s Church
In an interview with Citi FM, the Spokesperson of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Armeyawu Shaibu condemned the attack on Owusu Bempah by some youth who could not take frivolously, the preacher’s prediction of deaths in 2019.
“The actions by the youth have not received Sheikh’s endorsement. He is not aware of it and he has not mandated anybody to act in that manner. So he is calling on all the Muslims youth to stop whatever they are doing.” – Sheikh Armeyawu
Isaac Owusu-Bempah the leader of the Glorious Word Ministry, during the December 31 Christian watch night service, predicted that some notable Muslim leaders will die in 2019.
Needless to refer to the audio, the prediction incited some youth to attack the Odorkor branch of Owusu Bempah’s church. In a video shared via social media, some irate youth can be seen destroying some properties of the church including chairs and some musical instruments. Another youth could be seen wielding a machete and attempting to mutilate a billboard situated in front of the church premises. Some men from the church can also be seen sprinting in fear. One man reported to have been assaulted by the youth claim to have reported the incident to the police.
The leader of the Christian Council Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong has called on church leaders to put an end to the annual prediction of death of people in Ghana. He also advised the media to halt their unneeded coverage of such predictions.
“Maybe this is the time the media must stop providing Media Oxygen to the death predictions for public decency and maturity of religious practices to thrive.” He said.
