Today’s Muslim Zongo Scholarship

What is it about?
As part of our efforts to help make education increasingly accessible to young people within our Zongo communities, irrespective of their financial standing, The Today’s Muslim intends to use its medium to provide scholarships to Muslim students from these communities.

While basic education has over the years improved within our communities, enrollment into tertiary institutions has rather suffered adversely. A discouraging percentage of Senior High School graduates drop out as a result of insufficient funds to support their enrollment into universities and other tertiary institutions. In many instances, as the waiting period during which such graduates make efforts to raise funds extends to one or more years, these SHS graduates get discouraged from desiring to continue their education.

Through this education fund, resources will be pooled from various sources and duly disbursed to these brilliant but needy students who get admission into tertiary institutions.

Who qualifies?
Senior High School graduates who have passed their WASSCE with an aggregate not exceeding 18. All courses are equally weighted and no preference is given to any particular course. The applicant must be a Muslim and must have been raised or must be residing in any of the Zongo communities.

When to apply
Applications are to be opened in June. Prospective applicants are therefore encouraged to apply to  any of the institutions listed below.

i. University of Ghana

ii. Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology

*Other institutions to be added soon.

Mode of application
Forms will be available online for applicants to fill and submit their scholarship application online at no cost.

Benefits
Selected applicants will have their first year admissions and academic fees to be fully funded.

Additional info
Due to limited funds available, the scholarship may not include residential fees of awardees. Also, the purpose of this scholarship is to enable SHS graduates to fully fund their admissions and first year fees. Thus, the duration of the scholarship is one year. However, the board seeks to expose scholarship awardees to other financial aid assistance to support the remaining duration of their academic period. Additionally, contingent on the funds available, an awardee might be fully funded throughout the period of tertiary education.
